A Case of Cerebral Infarction Provoked by Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Probable Unilateral Moyamoya Disease

چکیده
Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a progressive cerebrovascular disease of unknown origin and characterized by progressive occlusion of the terminal portion of the internal carotid and proximal cerebral arteries with the development of typical extensive basal collateral network. Major clinical manifestations include repeated ischemic or hemorrhagic strokes and epileptic seizures. It is known that hemodynamic reserve is reduced in MMD, especially in ischemia related symptoms. This condition could account for increased potential for susceptibility to cerebral ischemia-hypoxia. Recently, we experienced a case of acute cerebral infarction in a patient with probable unilateral MMD that was provoked by carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning.

Hemorrhagic cerebral infarction in carbon monoxide poisoning: a case report
INTRODUCTION Almost every known central neurological syndrome has been reported as a complication of carbon monoxide poisoning. Hemorrhagic infarct has rarely been considered as an early manifestation of carbon monoxide poisoning. A case of cerebral hemorrhagic infarction is presented. Typical findings, neuropathology and the role of vascular injury are described. CASE PRESENTATION The sympto...
متن کاملArteriovenous Malformation with an Occlusive Feeding Artery Coexisting with Unilateral Moyamoya Disease
BACKGROUND Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) with vascular abnormalities, including aneurysms, have been reported frequently. However, the coexistence of AVM and unilateral moyamoya disease is rare. We report herein an AVM patient who presented with acute ischemic stroke with unilateral moyamoya disease and occlusion of the feeding artery. CASE REPORT A-41-year old man was admitted with sudd...
متن کاملCerebral cavernous malformations and unilateral moyamoya in a patient with a new mutation in the KRIT-1 /CCM1 gene.
Introduction Cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs) are vascular anomalies with dilated, thin-walled capillaries. The disease can occur in sporadic or autosomal dominant-inherited forms (familiar forms), with incomplete penetrance and multiple lesions [1] . Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a dynamic cerebrovascular disease [2] where the outgrowth of small collateral vessels produces the radiological ...
متن کاملA case of unilateral moyamoya disease suffered from intracerebral hemorrhage due to the rupture of cerebral aneurysm, which appeared seven years later
BACKGROUND Whether unilateral moyamoya disease (MMD), confirmed by steno-occlusive lesion at the terminal portion of internal carotid artery with formation of moyamoya vessels unilaterally and normal or equivocal findings contralaterally, is an early form of definite (bilateral) MMD remains controversial. It is well-known that adult patients with MMD tend to suffer from cerebral hemorrhage, occ...
متن کاملAccidental carbon monoxide poisoning presenting without a history of exposure: A case report
INTRODUCTION Carbon monoxide poisoning is easy to diagnose when there is a history of exposure. When the exposure history is absent, or delayed, the diagnosis is more difficult and relies on recognising the importance of multi-system disease. We present a case of accidental carbon monoxide poisoning. CASE PRESENTATION A middle-aged man, who lived alone in his mobile home was found by friends ...
